Classification and precautions of roller conveyor

29th November 2022

As the most common assembly line equipment used in the automatic production line, the roller conveyor has the advantages of large conveying capacity, fast speed, simple structure, high reliability, convenient maintenance, etc. This article will give a systematic and detailed introduction to the roller conveyor to facilitate your future design work.

Roller material classification:

Plastic, carbon steel galvanized, stainless steel, rubber coated, chrome plated.

(1) Plastic roller:

Made of resin or PVC, light deadweight, good antirust effect, easy to clean, but low load and life;

(2) Carbon steel galvanized roller:

The surface treatment is relatively economical and easy to be plated. It is a low value anti-corrosion electroplating coating with high cost performance. It is the most commonly used material form at present, but it does not have strong wear resistance. The galvanized layer will gradually wear with the use of the roller;

(3) Stainless steel roller:

Beautiful, good corrosion resistance, suitable for kitchen appliances, auto parts, food production equipment, hospital appliances, etc;

(4) Rubber coated roller:

It can effectively improve the operation of the conveying system, prevent skidding (such as speed increase at specific stations, small angle climbing, etc.), and also protect the bottom of the goods to reduce the conveying noise. However, a small amount of "powder" will be generated after use, so it is not suitable for a dust-free environment;

(5) Chrome plated roller:

The hardness, wear resistance, temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and other properties are outstanding. The chromium plating layer is passivated under slight oxidation, forming a thin and transparent passivation film. It does not change color for a long time at room temperature, which protects the chromium plating layer. However, the brittleness is large. The workpiece should not bear large deformation after plating, otherwise the coating is easy to break or fall off.

matters needing attention:

(1) The greater the length width ratio of the goods, the better the stability of the straight line transmission of the roller transmission line. If the length width ratio of the goods is too small, it should consider adding external accessories, such as guide plates, guard rails, etc., to ensure the straight line operation of the goods.

(2) The higher the cargo height is, the greater the risk of dumping during transportation. At this time, the following measures should be considered:

① Reduce the distance between rollers as much as possible to make more rollers support the goods;

② Avoid sudden acceleration and braking;

③ In case of inclined conveying (such as glide slope), check the position of the gravity center of the goods, and pay attention to the risk of toppling due to inertia when sliding to the end.

(3) 3C and new energy lithium battery industries have special requirements for anti-static products, and anti-static treatment shall be considered in design.
